Bath bombs are soft-but-solid, roundish balls of materials designed to dissolve in the bath and be used instead of liquid bubble baths and bubble when they make contact with water. While they dissolve, bath bombs can add scents, colours, oils, cleansing agents or other materials to the water in the bath.
Depending on the manufacturer and the size of bath bomb, the amount of time required for bath bombs to dissolve can vary; although the average is around two minutes. Crackling and fizzing will occur while the bath bombs disintegrate, and it is during this time that the bombs' other materials (such as food colouring, glitter, herbs or dried flowers) will be dispersed through the bath water.
The bubbles this create can be fun, sticking to the bathers hair and body, but bath bombs can also have a (minimal) therapeutic effect when they contain essential oils and cleansing agents. E.g. Sea salt is deep cleaning, mint is energising, lavender is relaxing, almond oil is moisturising, etc.
Bath bombs are popularly given as gifts to individuals who could use a relaxing and pampering bath experience. The bath bombs are also appreciated as gifts by people who like to include natural ingredients in their skin care regimen, since a bath bomb's ingredients generally are much safer and more effective than the synthetic ingredients that are found in many other bath products. Bath bombs are also useful to parents who are trying to make bath time more appealing to children.
