It's nearly Christmas, the credit crunch is still crunching our bank accounts and we're struggling to figure out what we can give as gifts. Why not try making your own bath bombs? Here's a simple recipe to get you started.
You'll need: 300g Bicarbonate of Soda 100g Citric Acid 10ml Fragrance or Essential Oil of your choice Colour (food colour is fine, cosmetic or liquid soap better but harder to find) Clean cold water in a hand sprayer Moulds (ice-cube trays, yoghurt pots are fine)
• In a large mixing bowl, mix together the Bicarbonate of Soda and the Citric Acid until they are thoroughly mixed and a consistent texture (you may have to sieve it). • Add in a few drops of colour – just enough to get the shade you want and mix it in quickly to avoid the mixture fizzing up. • Then add the fragrance (or essential oil) and mix well. (Citrus oils may cause fizzing so mix quickly). • DO NOT LEAVE the mixture to stand or it will start to set! • Spray/squirt on a little cold water into the bowl and mix continuously to avoid it fizzing up in the bowl. • Keep adding water, a little at a time until the mixture starts to hold together when lightly squeezed in your hand. • Working quickly – it's time to fill the moulds. For round bath bombs, pack each half of the mould + a little bit over the surface and press the 2 halves together. • After 20-30 minutes drying and these should be quite hard and ready to be turned out of the mould and be left to dry.
Home made bath bombs – easy wasn't it?
