Basic bath bombs (in any size) are made from citric acid, baking soda, witch hazel, colouring and fragrance. Yes – that's it! Mixed together and compressed in a mould these fizz gently releasing their fragrance when added to a bath.
Fizzy, foaming or doubly bubbly bombs use that same basic ingredients list with the addition of corn starch, Epsom salts, olive oil or cocoa butter. These fizz and foam when added to a bath. Smoothies or moisturising bath bombs contain that same basic ingredients list again, this time with the addition of milk, cocoa butter, olive oil or shea butter. These often contain "gits" of dried flowers or herbs (or glitter).
So which do you choose? Whichever one you like best and fits your skin type probably – there are no rules.
Natural products and ingredients are good for your skin and even the most exotic of fragrances is usually derived from a plant or flower. Most importantly – they have a less damaging effect on the environment than chemical based products – think about where the water goes when you've finished your bath.
Since bath bombs are made from easily available natural ingredients it is possible to make these for yourself at home (if you like spending an afternoon doing something crafty) instead of buying them from a shop (who has done all the hard work so all you have to do is enjoy them).
